Where to Find Vintage Rugs
I love vintage rugs. There is something about them that makes the space instantly a home.
Why vintage?
They're unique, you'll never see the same one twice.
They last forever. Unlike new rug, these rugs only look better with age. They can continue to wear and still be a lovely addition to your room.
They're amazing quality. Most vintage rugs are handmade with techniques that date back centuries. These rugs are made to be passed down to future generations. (So, they can take a cleaning. I prefer to clean mine myself at home.)
They're rich in history. Knowing these rugs have seen some many memories in various households brings a certain warmth to my heart.
They're versatile. A vintage rug can ground a modern room, can be layered with a cowhide or jute rug or mixed with other rug-making cultures.
Online Stores:
When shopping online, I always start with "size" search terms like "8x10" or "runner" and then narrow down further by adding certain color search words.
Loom and Kiln: Good selection of large - medium size rugs in both good quality and distressed.
Coco Carpets, great shop for large options and bright colors. If you've shopped for vintage rugs before, you'll know it's easy to find a runner. Large sizes are harder to find.
Southshore Rugs: Great for Persian rugs
The Vintage Rug Shop is great for distressed Persian rugs for a more muted palette.
Rebecca and Genevieve: vibrant Turkish and Persian rugs in various sizes. Good starting point.
Knotted Turkish Rugs: Unique colors palettes to chose from.
Old New House: A lot of distressed rugs in various red and pink palettes with a few unique, one-of-a-kind large rugs.
Blue Loom: Great selection of really good quality rugs. They also seem to always have some great blue rugs.
Apple & Oak. (If you live in the Nashville area, for a small fee you can book the "Loretta Lou Visit" to bring you a truck full of rug options. AMAZING!)
Zuma Imports: Their inventory gives me “Venice bungalow” vibes. Great variety of rugs that would fit perfectly in an eclectic room.
Revival Rugs: They thoroughly hand select one-of-a-kind rugs from Turkey. They believe in the quality centuries of a rug-making tradition create.
Maven Collection: They're not vintage but they are ethically sourced and handmade.
Etsy has a great selection and well-priced. Here are a couple shops I like:
Woven in Vintage: Great for Turkish runners
EBTH I've yet to try this site but have heard you can find a steal on EBTH. From my experience with auctions, it can be hit or miss depending if someone else also is after the same things you are and/or if you remember to check you bids. I tend to forget to check and miss good steals.
