Holiday Obsession 2023: Tinsel, Ribbon & Vintage Glass Ornaments
Move aside bottle brush trees and brass bells, there is a new look in town!
I love Christmas decorating and start pursuing ideas early each year in preparation. The three big trends this year: Tinsel, Velvet Ribbon and Vintage Glass Ornaments.
Tinsel:
IT’S BACK BABY! …and I’m in love! Think 1950s Classic American Dream. Tinsel originally was made from hammered thin strands of silver to help reflect the candlelight glow. Thought to have originated in Germany. Grateful we no longer light candles and stick them in a tree but beyond happy we’ve stopped abandoning tinsel. The glimmer adds a fairytale Christmas spirit vibe. My favorite tinsel!
Ribbon:
It’s been here but this year it’s taking center stage. Trees covered in big bows, ribbons as garland streamers, and packages tied up with rich colored ribbons. A general theme is people pulling away from the glitter or pattern ribbon and going for a solid color. Easy, peasy - order Amazon ribbon!
Vintage Glass Ornaments:
As a collector of vintage Shiny Brite Ornaments, it’s our moment! Think Slim Aaron 1960s vibrant colored glass balls. The more the merrier it seems! These ornaments originate from European-style glass ornaments with their various hand-painted stripes and designs. The classic glass shape with vibrant colors adds playfulness to the tree! Hot Tip: Etsy for your vintage ornaments straight from Eastern Europe.
Can’t wait to see how everyone decorates this year!
Merry Christmas!
